2018 is here!

It’s a new year and we have a lot of exciting news to share.

So what have we been up to?

2017 was a year of growth.

The Team

We’ve assembled a killer team of engineers, content creators, and designers. We’ll be introducing some of them individually in the future and on our updated team page. For now, here’s a shortlist of our 2017 additions:

LizTheDeveloper— CTO, with 15+ years of educating developers at companies like Galvanize, Tradecraft, and Hackbright — which she cofounded. Be sure to read Liz’s Why I Joined Enki post.

Tammy Lee — Head of Data, previously VP of Educational Design at Galvanize with a background in statistics and data mining from Berkeley, Stanford, and Harvard

Ryguy (aka Ryan Nadeau) — Magic maker, building education and enterprise partnerships

Pedro da Rocha Pinto — Senior Software Engineer, PhD in Computing Research and all-around coding boss working on scaling our platform

Stefano Bourscheid — Full-stack developer, leading the charge on our React Native redesign and anything else that pops up

Matt Leach — Designer & Content Creator, designing Enki’s newest products while writing JavaScript and CSS content in his free time

Umi (aka Jon Lewis) — Designer extraordinaire (previously at Elevate) crafting a beautiful and exciting new look for the Enki React Native app

Olivia Oddo — Junior Developer; leading all front-end UI development

Clare Myers — Data Scientist, wrangling all of our data insights on the platform and helping us visualizing them with Keen.io

Miles Florence — Content Creator for our upcoming Security module

And we’re hiring a Junior Dev!

Scaling

The good news: Enki is growing! The bad news: Enki is growing. If you’ve been having some issues with the current app, we’d like to apologize.

Our dev team has been working nonstop since the start of the new year to fix our scaling problems. There is still work to do, although we’ve made serious progress and cut the number of errors by over 60%.

Please read LizTheDeveloper’s analysis of the incident for all the details.

In any case, we hope that all users’ apps will return to their normally-scheduled coding workouts by the end of this week. If this isn’t the case, please get in contact with us at support@enki.com.

Migrating Over to React Native

We’re deep into the process of overhauling and redesigning our current app to work natively on both Android and iOS using React Native. Jon Lewis has designed a beautiful, new look and feel that will be launching in the first half of this year. Keep a look out!

EnkiBot

2018 will see the launch of an EnkiBot on Slack. We at Enki love Slack and think that the bite-sized nature of the Enki workouts will be a perfect way for teams to continue learning new skills. We have a lot of exciting new features planned.

If your team uses Slack and wants to be one of the first to try out EnkiBot, get in touch!

Outlook

2018 is gearing up to be our most exciting year yet. We’ll be making a lot of announcements in the near future. We also have some fresh content coming out.

Upcoming topics include:

  • 🔐 Security: Core
  • 😀 Blockchain: Core
  • 🖥 Blockchain: Solidity

Keep an eye out! In the mean time, we appreciate your patience, your enthusiasm, and your support.

To our community, supporters and friends, we look forward to seeing you in 2018!

Special thanks to Kirill Makharinsky, S. K. Nowak, LizTheDeveloper, Cătălin Buruiană, and Stefano Bourscheid for providing feedback and editing
